Dig Deep with Terry Hunter (T's Box Records) 200912

On this week’s show we are truly honoured to Dig Deep with soulful house legend Terry Hunter!.

King of the rotary mixer, Terry's awesome one hour mix is one of the tightest and uplifting DJ sets I've played over the last year or so and it's brimming with the classic soulful house, garage and disco vibes that he is world famous for producing and playing...  As usual the mix is being broadcast exclusively on the Dig Deep Radio Show in the UK.

One of The original windy city House head honchos, Terry has been at the forefront of house music for the past 25 years and has travelled the globe sharing his passion for soulful house music while continuing to produce dance-floor packing hits for his Ts Box record label.

Born in August 1970 on the Southside of Chicago, Terry was introduced to music at a young age - "I really didn't know I could make a living at becoming a DJ at first.  I just thought it would be an expensive hobby because at the time I was a vinyl junkie which was an expensive habit.  My love became so strong for DJing that I spent entire summers in my bedroom & local records stores just hanging around & not playing with my friends.  That’s when a few years later, I knew in my heart this is what I was born to do.”

It's fair to say Terry's discography is huge - he debuted onto the Chicago house scene with his first release, a dirty and jacking (and now classic) house track called ‘Madness.  "I created a big buzz on the record by playing it myself at various parties, it started out as a basement track, but became much more.” The track was released on Muzique Records in 1990.

Quickly moving to create a style of spinning that consisted of collaborating great songs with a unique soulful presence. Terry began DJing throughout the world enlightening his fans with his signature sound which has become a blueprint for many DJs to follow.

Over the last 20+, Terry has lent his production talents to classics such as UBQ Project’s ‘When I Fell In Luv’ (1991), 'Sweet Music' on MAW (1999), Richard Rogers ‘On The Dancefloor’ (1999) and Georgie Porgie’s club crossover anthem ‘Life Goes On’ (2000) to name just a few.  He has also remixed tracks for the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Marshall Jefferson, Michael Jackson, Byron Stingily (Ten City), Mary J. Blige, Barbara Tucker and India.

In 2004, Terry launched his own label, T’s Box Records to breed the next generation of artists.  In 2005 Terry remixed Kanye West's 'Addiction' with close friend Kenny Dope and the duo have been releasing tracks under the guise of 'Mass Destruction' for time.

Putting house music aside for a minute, Terry has also co-written some great soul and RnB tracks such as Raheem DeVaughn's 'You' and Syleena Johnson's Natalie Cole sampling gem 'And He Makes Me Say' both released in 2005.

In 2007 Terry released the soulful house bomb, 'Wonderful', featuring Chicago songstress Terisa Griffin, a record that is still getting hammered by the likes of Gene Hunt.  In 2009 Terry won 5 Magazine's 'Producer Of The Year' award.

Fast forward to 2012 and Terry finally released 'Inspiration To Me' in May with help from Pirahanhead, Kerri Chandler, Diviniti and Eric King.  And June saw the release of Jungle Strut on Ts Box - a killer rework of the Gene Ammons Jazz Funk classic...

Trainspotters, tapers house veterans and disco divas be ready!  Big up as always to DJ Izrail head of the Dig Deep Chicago family for the hook up.
