Dig Deep on Preston FM

Between 2006 and 2014 Paul Thornton presented his Dig Deep Radio Show on Preston FM.

Every other Thursday from 8 till 10pm listeners were treated to a dig through the crates of funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, latin, brazilian, afrobeat, down tempo grooves, disco, boogie, deep house, broken beat, techno and everything in between. The show was repeated the following Sunday between 5-7pm.

With regular visitors to the studio, each show featured an exclusive playlist of selections from around the globe, and a guest DJ in the mini-mix. Guest mixes featured on the 200ish programmes came from both world renowned DJs and those up and coming on the local scene. Some of these shows are now archived on Mixcloud.

As you can imagine the guest list is quite large but regular contributors included from Paul Watson, Cottam, Tom Boogizm and Tom Ireland, Mikey Don, Sean P, Fraser Funk, Diesler, Simba, Mr Scruff, Nick The Record, Dr D, Pilooski, Mr Mendel, Fraser Todd, Trailer Trash crew, Gordon & Boney Votel, Nick The Greek, Chris Da Mentalist, Joe Mclaren, Mike Todd, Karl Yates, Paul Adams, Dave Prentice, John Tree, Murph, Paul Lynch, Joe Black, Davo from Scene, Lee Seager and Liam Reilly. Meanwhile interviews came from the likes of Laura Vane and Templebys.

In 2010 a friendship with DJ Izrail Dizko came about and the Chicago Dig Deep Family was born. A stream of DJ mixes followed from Windy City veterans including Dave Merrit, Al Hotmix Holmes, Boo Williams, Neil Howard, Terry Hunter, Gene Hunt, Boogie Nite, K Alexi-Shelby, Voc Walters, Sean Campbell and Izrail himself which perfectly captured the true house sound of Chicago whilst not forgetting it's deep disco roots.

In the final year at Preston FM the show moved to the 1st Thursday of the month as part of The Boogie Down Thursdays series, where for one night a week, Paul and his fellow funk soul jazz enthusiasts Diesler, Bodie Doyle, Fraser Funk and Chris Holt would whisk the listener away to the land of dusty grooves and undiscovered gems that would never normally get played on the radio. The last Dig Deep on Preston FM was broadcast on 5th June 2014.
