The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club returns to Preston

In around 5 week's time The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club returns to Preston's 53 Degrees. This will be the 4th time Craig has brought his legendary Trunk Of Funk to the city, and if the previous events are anything to go by, this will be another sell out night.

The atmosphere that Craig generates is 2nd to none; the crowd are always on the dance floor from the moment the doors open till the end of the night. His ever charismatic sets are a culmination of years of work as a presenter and stand up comedian fused with a life long obsession with funk and soul music.

With an explosive party feel, the place literally 'erupts' as soon as Craig gets behind the decks. A natural entertainer, anyone that can smoothly take a crowd from a peak time jump up and down anthem into a chilled out version of Bob Marley, with just a mic, and then have the whole room singing along will always get my respect. Craig loves the music that he plays and that comes across in bucket loads.

One of the hardest working men in the business, when he is not on TV or getting the crowd jumping at festivals and clubs across the country, The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show continues to explore the best in funk and soul from the roots of black music through to the current club sounds. Broadcast every Saturday on BBC Radio 6 Music the show features classic tracks, new releases, sessions and interviews from some of the biggest names. Check his show every Saturday 6pm-9pm.

Always keen to support local talent, a Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club in Preston wouldn't be the same without a live performance from Templebys. After a busy summer playing gigs and festivals such as Beat-Herder, Kendal Calling, Audiofarm, The Blue Room and Matt & Phreds, Preston's finest funk outfit Templebys are back once again to raise the roof. The band are tighter than ever and will no doubt smash it as they get the whole place to get their groove on.

DJ support comes from myself and Chris Holt (Four Corners) - we will be stringing the night together with both tried and tested classics alongside newer releases from the funk and soul scene. I'm really looking forward to getting my funk on in this back to back set with Chris. I have got a tonne of new vinyl since the last one, and I know Chris has also been stocking up his collection too.

I love playing at The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club. The team from Valley Events Management take good care of us all and, after putting on events in the city for 11+ years, it's an absolute pleasure to play to a captive and more than up for it audience at rammed capacity.

These events appeal to everyone from students, to clubbers and promoters from the diverse music scene in Preston, as well as the die hard funk and soul connoisseurs. Ticket sales are already going well and a few people missed out last time, so I thought an early heads up might be appreciated.

Some people know him as Lister from Red Dwarf, but that's not him. Some people know him as Lloyd the Taxi Driver, but that's not him. His name is Craig Charles and he plays funk and soul!
