Dig Deep on Cowbell Radio returns this Saturday with another very special guest, as we delve into the UK's deep house scene with an exclusive DJ mix from Sunderland's MannMadeMusic.
As a producer Iain Mann aka MannMadeMusic has been knocking out chunky chugging funked up nu disco grooves to deep as you like Moodymann-esque house since 2011.
His first release on the now mighty Audio Parrallax, called Deep Soul, lifted the 'to die for strings' off Freddie Hubbard's Little Sunflower (as sampled by ATCQ) and turned them into a percussive slice of deep disco. And if that wasn't enough some guy called Matthew Kyle offered up his own more stripped back remix. Sounds Of The Old from the same release completed the Digi-EP with the spine tingling vibes.
Releases in February and March 2011 followed quickly on Editorial, both dowsed in the sweet soul grooves by the likes of Marvin Gaye. At the same time he started to show his deeper house roots on a second Audio Parrallax release called Not For The Money.
By September 2011 he had made his way onto vinyl, dropping killer edit after edit on labels such as Tusk Wax, Lumberjacks In Hell, Glenview and Diner City Sound. His debt vinyl release was the low slung soul stonker "I Choose You Hutch" on Tusk Wax One.
His first release on Lumberjacks in Hell gave us the gut wrenching bassline led grooves of Easy Lover and dancefloor bomb that is Circles.
Glenview snapped up a nice take on The S.S.O. Orchestra's Faded Lady (as sampled by Busta Rhymes on NY Shit).
In 2013 you'd be forgiven for missing the deep jazz house of 'Listen Up', which was tucked away under another miss-spelled name on the 4 track Futurism Volume 3 EP that also featured tracks by Ben La Desh & Plan D'Aqua, Ny Ak and Ex-Friendly.
Come 2014 and his tracks have appeared on the digital only Midnight Riot Volume 6 compilation LP alongside The Dead Rose Music Company, Rayko and Beaten Space Probe. Meanwhile there are two essential 12"s doing the rounds. The first is the new Lumberjacks In Hell sister label Lumberjacks Boogie Volume 1 featuring 'Lady'.
The second is the deeper and more housey Rough Times EP on Shadeleaf, that comes backed by a quality remix by Thatmanmonkz.
So with a back catalogue like that, from a producer that feels music the way MannMadeMusic does, it should come as no surprise that he knows a thing a two when it comes to the DJ front. His mix is full of those deep sultry house vibes that come rooted in jazz and soul but never take their eye off the dancefloor.
Fans of Moodymann, Andres, Rick Wade, Andy Hart, Max Graef, Floating Points, 6th Borough will not want to miss this superb 1 hour set straight out of the UK's East Coast.
Also on the show I will be digging deep in the box marked 'new records' which has been filling up recently as I do my prep for this weekend's Beatherder Festival.
