Paul Thornton has been DJing since the 90s, honing his skills with 5 hour sets at The Departure Lounge in Preston before going on to play at hundreds of events all over the UK. Now a seasoned club and festival DJ, Paul has steadily built a reputation as a respected selector that plays across the board and rocks a party with ease...

A self confessed vinyl junkie, Paul is one of those increasingly rare breed of DJs that still lugs crates of black wax to every gig. Originally discovering funk, soul, jazz, boogie and disco through hip hop, house, and techno, Paul’s love of the music led him back to its roots and he has spent the last 20+ years buying the tracks that either influenced or were sampled on his favourite records. As you can imagine he discovered many more gems along the way.

A man with his fingers in many pies, Paul is possibly best known as the host of the 'Dig Deep' show on Cowbell Radio. Broadcasting since 2006, Paul has worked with some of the most respected DJ’s and live acts from around the world including Mr Scruff, Rahaan, Danielle Moore, Mr Mendel, Sean P, Boogie Nite, John Morales, Marcel Vogel, Boo Williams, K Alexi Shelby, Gene Hunt, Mark Grusane, Fraser Funk, Bruce Ivery, Zernell Gillie, Cottam, Simba, Yogi Haughton, Jamie 3:26 and Manmademusic.

The Dig Deep Radio Show is broadcast live on the 3rd Saturday of the month on Cowbell Radio. For archived shows go to

Elsewhere he has shared the decks with the likes of Norman Jay, Greg Wilson, Manchester stalwarts Darren Laws, Martin Brew, The Unabombers, Jon K, Mikey Donn, Beatphreak, the Boogizm crew, and The Dead Horse Gang, and he has played at award winning Festivals such as The Vintage Festival, Beat-Herder, Solfest, Trailer Trash, The Scottish Soulful Weekender, Alfresco, Kendal Calling to name a few.

On the 45 side of things, Paul is one half of the DJ tag team that supports The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show when it rolls into town and has supported Smoove & Turrell, Templebys and The Mouse Outfit.

Over the past year Paul has been busy with his new residency at The Reboot Project in Manchester, and the opening of his new Dig Deep Records store.

When asked to describe his style he said “soulful music that has the funk”.
